Vietnam Visa Guide

A Vietnamese Entry Visa is required for most foreigners. It allows Vietnam visa holders to enter and exit Vietnam at Hanoi, HCMC and Danang air-ports or at any of its twelve land borders, three each with Cambodia and China, and six with Laos.

1. For those who are required entry visa to Vietnam, they need to arrange Vietnam visa before their departure by applying for a visa approval letter online to get the visa stamp at Vietnam International Airports (visa on arrival) through such travel agency service as www.Vietnam-Visa.com OR applying at local Vietnam Embassy/Consulate to get visa stamped.

2. Tourist visas are valid for a single 30-day stay. The government often talks about issuing visas on arrival to certain favoured nationalities, but as yet this sensible scheme has failed to materialise. Arranging the paperwork for a Vietnamese visa has become fairly straightforward, but it remains expensive and unnecessarily time-consuming.

3. It is possible to arrange a visa on arrival through Vietnamese travel agencies. They will need visa applicants’ passport details in advance and will send a visa approval letter to the visa applicants to confirm the visa to be issued at the Vietnam international airport of arrival. In Asia the best place to pick up a Vietnamese visa is Cambodia, where it cost around USD30 and can be arranged within the applying date. Bangkok is also a popular place as many agencies offer cheap packages with an air ticket and visa thrown in.

4. If you plan to spend more than a month in Vietnam, or if you plan to exit Vietnam and enter again from Cambodia or Laos, arrange a three-month multiple-entry visa. It costs around USD95 in Cambodia, but is not available from all Vietnamese Embassies. Our clients’ feedbacks indicate that personal appearance partly influences the reception you receive from the Airport Immigration Points. For instance, if you wear shorts or scruffy clothing, look untidy or unshaven, you can be in some problems. Therefore, the Vietnam visa applicants are advised to try the best to look ‘respectable’.

Visa exemption for overseas Vietnamese

Overseas Vietnamese entering Vietnam under visa exemption papers (VEPs) are allowed to stay here within 90 days each entrance. Those who expect to stay more than 90 days have to apply for visa in line with the current provisions before their entrance.

Question: (An overseas Vietnamese in France) In 2011, I will return Vietnam to set up a tourist agency. However, I find it difficult to conduct a feasible study within 90 days. I want to reside in Vietnam for at least six month. Whether can I apply a visa? What are the procedures?

Answer:  (Lawyer Trần Văn Toàn, Hà Nội law group)

Under Article 6 of the PM’s Decision 135/2007/QĐ-TTg, dated on August 17, 2007, promulgating the regulations on visa exemption for overseas Vietnamese, those who enter Vietnam under the VEPs are permitted to stay in Vietnam within 90 days each entrance.

Those who expect to stay more than 90 days must apply for visa according to current stipulations before their entrance.

If you want to stay in Vietnam more than 90 days, you will have to apply for a Vietnam visa.

Under Articles 4 and 7 of the National Assembly Standing Committee’s Ordinance 24/1999/PL-UBTVQH 10, dated on April 28, 2000, on entry, exit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam, you should come to the Vietnamese Embassy in France to apply for a visa.

You can apply for a 12-month business visa, allowing single entry or multiple entries and stays.

Visa exemption for Morocco

The Vietnamese Embassy in Morocco exempted Vietnam visa fees for tours from October 10 to December 31, 2010.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Morocco, in coordination with the Morocco Tourism Agency, organised talks on Vietnamese tourism entitled “Vietnam – the hidden charm”.

Present at the talks were representatives from the Vietnamese Embassy, and the Moroccan Foreign Ministry, as well as nearly 50 Morocco tourism businesses and journalists.

The talks introduced Vietnam’s people and land along with prospects, potential and the tourism environment. It provided a good chance for the two sides to understand tourism markets and attract Moroccan visitors to Vietnam.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Morocco, Cao Xuan Than affirmed that Vietnam hass always considered an attractive and safe destination for international visitors. The Vietnamese Government always creates favourable conditions and support tourism businesses to ensure safety for visitors.

President of the Casablanca Tourism Agents Association, A. Bokhomet said Vietnam will become a favoured destination for high incomers and foreigners in Morocco. He expressed his hope that the Vietnamese Embassy will help Moroccan travel agents to seek information and business opportunities in Vietnam.
