Instruction for getting Vietnam visa in Thailand

Visa to Viet nam is required for all visitors, except citizens of some countries for short stay. Thai are exempted for up to 30 days. If you want to stay longer, you should apply for a visa for Viet nam at Vietnam Embassy Bangkok.

Visitors can apply for single or multiple-entry, from1 month to 3 months.
Applicant can personally or delegate to the third person/ agency to carry out the procedures of Vietnam visa application.

Following documents are requested to submit to the Embassy for all kinds of Viet nam visa:
- The original PASSPORT with blank pages for visa stamp. The expiry date of the passport should not be earlier than 3 months since the date of departure from Vietnam.
- One completed application form.
- Two passport-size photographs: one is stapled or glued firmly to the application form.
- Approval from Immigration Authority or Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.
- Visa fee (Vietnam visa fee should be paid in Thai Baht by cash; Holders of Diplomatic Passports and members of Diplomatic or Consular Missions who are going on their official missions are exempted from visa fees – this practice is subject to reciprocal treatments between Vietnam and concerned Countries).

The application form is available at the Embassy or can be printed out in the forms folder. It takes from 1 to 4 days to process a visa.

For those who would like to avoid the perhaps lengthening visa procedures with their local Vietnam Embassy, the service of Vietnam Visa On Arrival is available for help. It is legitimated and supported by the Vietnamese Immigration Department. Vietnam Visa Requirements for Sweden

General information:

Citizens of Sweden visiting Vietnam for up to 15 days are exempted from Vietnam visas if they meet the following conditions (please click here for the conditions).
Visitors who intend to stay in Vietnam for up to 15 days but do not possess return ticket, ticket to a third country, or who travel on open ticket need to apply for visa.
Visitors who intend to stay in Vietnam for more than 15 days need to apply for visa.
The Vietnam visa procedure usually takes about 2-3 days, but can be expedited upon request.
Visa application can be made in person or by mail.
If you wish to have the Viet nam visa sent back to you by courier (such as DHL, UPS or by other express delivery services), you need to order the service in advance and the service charge will be at your account.
You can download the Visa Application Form, or fill it out when making the application in person at the Chancery of the Embassy.

Tourist visa:

Visitors can apply for One/Single or Multiple entries Visa. Tourist visa is valid for up to one month and can be applied 6 months in advance.

Tourist visa usually takes 2 to 3 days to process (from the date the application arrives at the Embassy), but can be expedited if requested .

Applicants are requested to submit to the Consular Section of the Embassy the following documents :

The original and valid passport i.e the expiry date of the passport should be at least 1 months since the date of departure from Vietnam, and with vacant pages for visa stamp.
One application form properly filled in with 01 (one) recent passport-sized photos attached.
Copy of visa approval (if any)
Visa fee.
Return envelop.

Business visa:

Applicants are kindly requested to submit the following documents

Copy of visa approval provided by the Vietnamese counterparts/sponsors.
One application form properly filled in with 01 (one) recent passport-sized photos attached.
Original passport.
Visa fee.
Return envelop.
Applicant can personally or delegate to the third person/ agency to make the procedures and get visa.
It will take 02 or 03 days to secure a business visa since the above required documents arrive at the Embassy.

1. A stamped certificate

A visa exemption certificate is stamped on the passports of Vietnamese nationals living abroad and foreign nationals to allow their entrance into Vietnam.

Who are not eligible for visa exemption certificate?

Persons “temporarily not allowed to enter Vietnam” as regulated in Article 8 of the Decree on Entry, Exit and Stay of Foreigners in Vietnam, for the following reasons:

a) Using forged documents, deliberately making false statements upon entry proceedings
b) For preventing possible epidemics
c) Severely offending Vietnamese laws in the first entry
d) National security reasons, other special reasons under decision by the Minister of Public Security.
- Overseas Vietnamese already granted permanent resident’s permit in Vietnam
- Overseas Vietnamese waiting for exchanging permanent residence documents
- Foreigners who are holders of documents that cannot be used in lieu of passports.

The re-issuance of Certificate of Visa Exemption

The re-issuance or from the second issuance of Certificate of Visa Exemption:

In case of applying for the re-issuance the Certificate of Visa Exemption (due to lost of visa exemption certificate or expired visa exemption certificate or issuance of new passport) at the initial issuing competent authorities, the applicant only needs to submit 01 application form with no certification of Vietnamese residing abroad required.
In case of application for re-issuance of Certificate of Visa Exemption (due to visa exemption certificate lost or expired) not submitted to the initial issuing agency, the applicant is required to submit all the documents as per the procedures applied to first-time issuance of Certificate of Visa Exemption.

Required documents required for visa exemption certificate

For Vietnamese people are residing abroad, profile comprises:
a. 01 application form for visa exemption certificate.
b. 02 recent 4 x 6cm photos with white background, straight face, bare head, no colored glasses (01 photo attached to the application form and 01 spare photo)
c. Foreign passports or equivalent documents with validity of at least 6 months upto date of entry. If the applicant does not have a passport, he/she must submit a permanent resident’s permit issued by foreign authorities with the validity of at least 6 months upto the date of entry (with attached copy for competent authority to file)
d. One of the following documents (attached copy for competent authority to file) if available:
- A certificate of Vietnamese citizenship;
- A copy or excerpt of the Decision for Recovery of Vietnamese citizenship;
- A copy or excerpt of the Decision for Renunciation of Vietnamese citizenship;
- Certificate of Lost of Vietnamese citizenship;
- A Vietnamese passport (valid or invalid)
- An Identity Card (valid or invalid)
- A Birth Certificate (Copy accepted)
- The latest voter’s card
- A Family Register Book
- A travel document issued before 1975
- An Identity Card issued before 1975
- An Excerpt from Birth Register issued before 1975
- Documents issued by competent foreign authorities if they can prove that the person in question has original Vietnamese citizenship or of Vietnamese origin.
e. In case of not having documents listed at section (d), the following documents could be submitted:
- A guarantee issued by an overseas Vietnamese association from the country of residence (in due form provided)
- A guarantee from a Vietnamese citizen (in due form provided)
The said documents do not need require further certification or verification.
